It was all quite overwhelming for Earthman Arthur Dent when he discovers that his planet is about to be bulldozed and that his best friend, Ford Prefect, actually was an alien who had been posing as an out of work actor for the past 15 years and even more so when he is whisked off our home planet right in the nick of time by Ford before Earth is demolished to make way for an intergalactic freeway. What appears to start on such a chaotic note turns into what can be regarded as a journey of a lifetime for this dynamic duo!

On their way, Arthur meets a host of interesting and unique characters like the paranoid and chronically depressed robot Marvin, the two- headed President of the galaxy, Zaphod Beeblebrox and had a rather awkward encounter with Zaphod's girlfriend, Trillian (formerly, Tricia McMillan), who he had tried to pick up once upon a time zone at a cocktail party. But that wasn't all! He also picked up on little nuggets of wisdom from his experiences and the handbook called 'A Hitchhiker's Guide' (a sort of encyclopedia on how to survive such intergalactic travels). Thus, he realizes the truth in the quote 'A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have' and while dwelling on the deeper and more baffling meaning of life, he understands that 42 is the answer to life, Universe and everything!

This sci-fi international bestseller has, over time, attained the status of a cult classic and one of its most striking features is Douglas Adam's narrative which is laced with the characteristic blunt and slightly satiric British humor. Besides, the storyline too is quite fast paced and dramatic and doesn't really give the reader a chance to be bored ever!

The novel has enthralled generations over more than 35 years and will continue to be loved alike by teenagers and adults. After all, who doesn't find a series of intergalactic (mis)adventures interesting?

Do grab a copy of this 'can't-afford-to-miss' book and join the club! Who knows, you might end up believing in the magic of the number 42 too.
